Public Relations at the National OfficeTo help us raise awareness about the Volunteers in Medicine movement, the national office has begun working with Elizabeth Davis of Boardman Davis Communications on our PR efforts. Our goal is to increase visibility of Volunteers in Medicine by building relationships with the media on both a national and local level.
In order to do this effectively, Elizabeth may call upon individual VIM Alliance members for local success stories, such as details about an outstanding volunteer, clinical program, or community event. 2nd VIM National Conference UpdateThe national office has received your inquires about the next VIM Alliance National Conference. We are exploring the possibility of hosting a conference in Spring 2009. New Administrative Assistant Joins VIM StaffPlease welcome Brenda Kissam as Administrative Assistant in the national office! Brenda Kissam joined VIM in May, after the departure of Ellen Hamilton. Brenda recently relocated from Kansas to be closer to her family in Vermont. With her background in education and hours of nonprofit volunteer experience, Brenda is quickly becoming an integral part of the staff. News from VIM Alliance ClinicsWe invite VIM Alliance members to share your stories about successful fundraising events, clinical programs, awards, and other news items of interest. Please send your news stories to skelley@vimi.org so that we may consider them for publication in our newsletter.Franklin County VIMFranklin County Volunteers in Medicine located in Louisburg, North Carolina received a $20,000 contribution from the Franklin Regional Medical Center. This is the single largest donation the clinic has received to date. The partnership between the two organizations was further solidified when CEO, Mike McNair agreed to serve on the Franklin County VIM Board of Directors.VIM ChattanoogaThe second annual VIM Randy Smith Gold Classic was a success for the VIM Clinic in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The clinic raised over $22,000 in this year’s event with participation from Randy Smith, the Sports Director, and other members of the Channel 3 Eyewitness News team. These dollars will fund over three weeks of clinic operations and provide medical care services for close to four hundred people. This care is valued at $92,670 and is well over $350,000 in Emergency Room rates.Parker Family Health CenterThe Parker Family Health Center in Red Bank, New Jersey has partnered with the League of Woman Voters in an effort to register clinic patients to vote, and thereby advocate for policies that affect their lives.Henri Woodman ClinicCoastal Medical Access Project, which oversees the Henri Woodman Clinic in Brunswick, Georgia, received the 2008 Joseph D. Greene Community Service Award for advancing the health of all Georgians and expanding access to affordable, quality healthcare for underserved individuals and communities. |
