Watertown Area Cares Clinic Offers Medical Services to Uninsured

“The reason this clinic is possible is because of the support from the community,” Carol Mertins, project coordinator, said.  “Everyone has donated time, money and resources to make this clinic a reality.”  The Watertown Area Cares Clinic located in Watertown, WI opened in May.  This community owned clinic will provide health services free of charge to the uninsured whose income is less than 200 percent of the federal poverty level.

The clinic includes four exam rooms, a dispensary, three eligibility screening rooms, work room, waiting room and conference room.  Watertown doctors including orthopedic specialists, internists, pediatricians, and family practitioners have volunteered their time to see patients.

The Watertown Area Cares Clinic opened with the assistance of Volunteers in Medicine (VIM), the only national nonprofit organization to assist communities with the development of free health care clinics based on the VIM model.  There are now 62 VIM clinics in 21 states across the country providing serves to the “working uninsured”.
