VIM National Office
Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) is the only national nonprofit dedicated to assisting communities with the development of free health care clinics for the uninsured.
Our mission is to promote and guide the development of a national network of free clinics emphasizing the use of retired medical and community volunteers within a culture of caring to improve access to health care for America's underserved, particularly the uninsured.
Working with Volunteers in Medicine provides access to the proven VIM model and experienced staff who are aware of the many challenges and obstacles involved in developing a free clinic.
VIM staff provide assistance and guidance through each phase of the development process – from the initial feasibility study through to the opening of the clinic. Once open, a clinic is eligible to become part of the VIM Alliance.
Resource materials are available and shared throughout the development process:
- Start-Up Guide with a flow chart providing step-by-step instruction through the development process
- Tip Sheets providing information on a variety of topics related to clinic development
- Clinic Support Manual containing policies, procedures, surveys, job descriptions and other relevant materials
- Culture of Caring DVD describing the unique culture of VIM clinics
- Circle of Caring: The Story of the Volunteers in Medicine Clinic, Dr. Jack McConnell tells his story of developing the first VIM clinic on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina
The VIM national office is able to offer these services through the generous support of McNeil Consumer Healthcare, the makers of TYLENOL®, and private donations.
